Many interesting points emerged at the 2011 annual Pilot-Controller Forum; some are Heathrow-specific and some also apply to other UK airports. 1. The 27L missed approach is to 2,000 feet and not 3,000 as it is on other LHR runways. Climbing to 3,000 feet on 27L is a level bust; some pilots inadvertently set 3,000 feet on the MCP, which can be seen by Terminal Control at Swanwick via Mode-S, but not by ATC at Heathrow. BALPA has asked NATS to consider enabling Heathrow ATC to monitor this mis-setting by giving them access to Mode-S data.
