DNV GL has launched a Recommended Practice on LNG bunkering for suppliers and operators. The classification society says that although the industry has gained significant experience over the years there is as yet no process for developing a standard required infrastructure for bunkering. Currently, 83 LNG fuelled ships are in operation or on order worldwide ranging from passenger ferries to tankers and platform supply vessels. The ISO draft guideline published in June 2013 suggests a list of 24 requirements on how bunkering should work but Lars Fitter Blikom, LNG director, DNV GL, says that the new recommendation will help put them into practice.
