The first ever marine trials of a Gas to Liquids (GTL) diesel fuel produced by the oil major Shell in Malaysia are underway onboard a Dutch ferry with the trial participants claiming significant environmental benefits. One of the Caterpillar diesel genset engines on the 130m long car and passenger ferry Dokter Wagemaker, which operates between Den Helderand the Dutch island of Texel, has been running on pure GTL fuel since mid-2007.
