Once in a while a new system comes along that revolutionises the way we look at shipbuilding and design. The new compact EPS thruster from Van der Velden Marine Systems in Drachten, Holland, is one such innovation. In addtion to Van der Velden, the development also involved JB Besturingsteckniek in Oosterwolde. The manufacturerer claims the thruster is amazingly quiet, offers exceptional sideways power, takes up half the space of a conventional bow or stern thruster and provides significant savings in weight.
