ON April 27,1963 a group of RCTS members set sail from Newhaven to travel to Franco's Spain in the search of steam. SNCF Pacific No. 231D598 took the group's train to Paris where they later caught the overnight train to Irun, hauled by electric No. BB9262. After arrival in the Basque town, and having cleared customs, a visit to the local shed found onlya handful of steam locomotives. Finding their booked seats on the'lberian Express', electric traction whisked them south to Miranda de Ebro, where their first port of call was the shed.
