Manchester Metrolink has started live testing of trams on the newly constructed sections through Oldham and Rochdale town centres. It now seems likely that the sections will open in the first half of 2014. The tram route to Oldham and Rochdale replaces the former heavy-rail route that closed in October 2009. It reopened to Oldham in June 2012 and to Rochdale railway station in February 2013. The diversion through Oldham town centre will include four new stops and some on-street running. Once opened, the current route through Oldham Mumps will be closed, with a new Mumps bus and tram interchange opening nearby. Live testing beqan over this section in late October.
