The eight-loco line-up for the Mid-Hants Railway's October 25-27 autumn gala included the three anticipated big name visitors plus the bonus of SR No. 850 Lord Nelson, returning to traffic after missing the summer. A1 No. 60163 Tornado, No. 34046 Braunton and 7P No. 70000 Britannia all arrived at Alton via the main line connection. Replacement of firebox stays on No. 70000 had been completed at LNWR Heritage allowing it to return to operation. MHR-based locos in action were unrebuilt'West Country' No. 34007 Wadebridge,'Black Five'No. 45379, SR Maunsell 'U’ class 2-6-0 No. 31806, and NRM-owned SR'Schools'No. 925 Cheltenham. The participation of Lord Nelson had been expected, but was a close-run thing. It was stopped at the end of May due to a hole in an outside-cylinder main steam pipe, and problems with the supply of a replacement pipe delayed repairs.
