There is a tradition of enthusiast charters covering rare track over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, despite the short daylight hours. This year, a couple of charters are on offer - both to Humberside. On December 21, Pathfinders"Beverley Carols' offers passengers a selection of options on Humberside - a carol concert, a rail tour inside Scunthorpe steelworks, or a trip across the Humber Bridge (by road of course!) The train starts at Newport, calling at stations via Bristol to Birmingham New Street and runs via the Doncaster area to Hull, before reversing to Beverley and its ancient minster. A tour on the Appleby & Frodingham Steelworks Railway is on offer via road coaches from Thome North station to the Tata plant, where passengers will switch to train for a private ride over some of the works' huge internal rail system.
