Since we entered the twenty-first century - our continent has undergone positive changes that warrant the term 'New Africa'. I believe that the prospects for peace and security - and indeed the fundamentals for socio-economic and political development - have greatly improved. While challenges remain, significant achievements have been made. Before discussing the New Africa, it is important to highlight the main features of the 'Old Africa' so as to contrast them with our new and more promising continent.
