Four years into what the United States calls the Global War on Terrorism, the US and our allies, working together with new methods and new energy, have accomplished much to ensure that tolerance and respect for individual rights ultimately prevails over violent extremism: 1. Implemented new measures to improve security in our respective homelands; 2. Defeated the brutal Taliban regime in Afghanistan, which terrorized the Afghan people and harboured terrorists; 3. Disrupted, captured and killed much of the Al-Qa'ida leadership; and 4. Defeated Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq, which murdered its own citizens, destabilized the Middle East and encouraged terrorism.
