The distribution of impurity elements (IEs) among the components of coal and their ability to change over to the gaseous phase of the combustion products under conditions of high-temperature heating in steam boilers at thermal power stations (TPS) is considered. Examples of constructing the calculated fields of concentrations of impurity elements in the atmospheric air for TPS of different capacities are given. Concepts for determining their "hazardous" concentrations in coals (that is, concentrations which, if exceeded, will result in violation of the maximal permissible concentration of detrimental substances in the air in the area around the TPS) are outlined.
