Every issue of Threads brings the staff an opportunity to examine one-of-a-kind garments. No two sewers make the same garment exactly the same way, from fabric choice to finishing touches. This is especially true when you consider the creativity of our skilled authors and readers. This issue has a story that I look forward to every year for inspiration. For 15 years, Threads has presented a design challenge to the members of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals. The winning garments are always among my favorite to photograph and read about. The most recent challenge, which inspired the gorgeous cover dress by Tricia Crockett, charged the ASDP membership with making sheath dresses based on any art form.The results are masterpieces in their own right, which blend inspiration, construction expertise, imaginative fabric usage, and other concepts into wearable garments. You can see the five winning garments starting on page 58.
