It is estimated that there is an average of 340 million occupational accidents a year occur globally, and they cost the global economy $3 trillion in healthcare and absences from work, according to the International Labor Organization (ILO). n the United States alone, a report published in November 2017 by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) stated that there were approximately 2.9 million non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported by private industry employers in 2016. hough these figures still remain alarmingly high, they are decreasing. Construction and manufacturing are two industries that experience the most accidents at work but have both seen dramatic decreases since 2003. In fact, in manufacturing, the number of days-away-from work cases fell by 4,560 (4 percent) to 118,050 from 2015 to 2016. Whether a facility specializes in the production of filters, the testing of tobacco or the development of new proprietary innovations, production facilities contain a wide breadth of machinery and equipment.
