The primary motivation for network sharing is to reduce costs via capital and operational expense savings. Sharing a site splits the power, rental and maintenance costs, while optimising coverage reduces total sites. Equipment costs are shared as coverage is expanded.rnThe charts show two network sharing scenarios developed by Unwired Insight as part of an Analysys Mason report. Scenario 1 is a network sharing example involving two operators: a 3G operator and an operator with 2G and 3G coverage; 3G coverage is patchy for both in rural areas.The operators have a total of 18,000 sites, of which 13,000 have been upgraded to 3G.
