Pressure is on the United States government to meet a growing demand for electricity while lowering carbon emissions over the next few decades. Though few nuclear power plants have been built in recent years, energy demand and advancements in technology has renewed interest in nuclear power. Nuclear power has been shown to be competitive with renewable energy sources in terms of greenhouse gases and economically favorable and reliable for base load power. Sustainably meeting the electrical demands of the future will require a diverse power portfolio with nuclear power expected to be an integral component.
