First, I want to congratulate Doug Wolff for his excellent presentation of this subject. He leads us very clearly through the design stages and restrictions encountered to complete this project. I particularly appreciate the frank discussion of problems that raised their ugly heads and how they were resolved, apparently to everyone's satisfaction.rnI have four comments /questions about the design of this vessel:rn1. The prismatic coefficient selected for this project was Cp = 0.526. Why was such a low prismatic coefficient selected? The design speed of 16 knots with a waterline length of 238.7 feet is a speed-length ratio of 1.036 (V/(LWL)l/2 English units). All the studies I am familiar with indicate that the least wave making resistance occurs at a prismatic coefficient of about 0.58 to 0.60 when the speed-length ratio is about 1.05.
