摘要

Most people spend about half of their waking hours involved with work. Even though work is this time-consuming, it does not necessarily follow that we find our jobs as fulfilling or as meaningful as did the English author Thomas Carlyle. In 1843 he mused, "All work is noble; Work alone is noble... A life of ease is not good For any man." The English social critic, John Ruskin, had a definite opinion on what it took To be satisfied in our work. In 1851 he declared "In order that people may be happy in their work, these three things are needed: They must be fit for it; They must not do too much of it; and They must have a sense of success in it."
