The elimination of coil-related downtime through the use of strip accumulators and coil end welders is essential in today's tube industry. With tube mills exceeding 182 m/min, the lost production during coil changeover is astounding. A tube manufacturing company cannot remain competitive if it does not accumulate and join coil ends together. The justification of strip accumulators is based on increased productivity as well as a reduction in scrap by continuous running. The tube mill seam welder and cutoff run better and produce less downtime if a continuous coil supply is available, resulting in less scrap.
