This article demonstrates that spring back is the reason for the side crown of rectangular tubing, then reveals the relationship between the side crown and the materials' strength and thickness. Finally, the effect of circumferential reduction on side crown control is explored and a strategy is presented to control the side crown. Each year a million tons of rectangular tubing is made by reshaping the round welded tube in line . The side flatness is an important quality parameter and sometimes, especially for high strength or thin material, or for rectangular tubing where the long side is much longer than the short side, it becomes difficult to control. This article is dedicated to exploring the fundamentals to control side crown and suggesting the strategies to control it.
