The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory teamed up with Air Vehicle Intelligence and Autonomy and Pennsylvania State University to explore just how much mileage they could get in the air using as little power as possible in a series of tests of using two unmanned sailplanes that were using autonomous soaring algorithm data.
