What would you like to see achieved for unmanned systems in a full reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration next year? I believe we must do more to move the ball forward on complex operations, in particular on the beyond line-of-sight issue. Establishing rules for unmanned aerial systems to operate beyond line-of-sight will significantly expand the application of the technology for uses ranging from package delivery to pipeline inspections. A path forward for some of those restrictions was included in the AIRR Act earlier this year, and it is my hope that we can replicate that effort in the upcoming reauthorization. We should also be wary of layering the Federal Aviation Administration with additional responsibilities, such as regulating privacy, that expand their reach beyond regulating safety and managing the national airspace. Doing so would add to the FAA's extensive workload and may present them with conflicting mandates.
