A team at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida is working with researchers from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland on robotic hardware that could be used to refuel satellites in orbit, keeping them working longer. The effort, underway since 2011, recently held a demonstration at the Kennedy Space Center in which a remotely operated robot showed it could transfer oxidizer into the tank of a spacecraft that was not originally intended to be refueled. "This is a unique test that's never been done, as far as we know, anywhere in the world," says Brian Nufer, a fluids engineer at NASA.
