In the current budget-cutting environment, many believe new unmanned aircraft and other intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform buys will decline. Budget talks in 2012 bear this out, at least for the near term. But Teal Group Corp. believes that in most U.S. defense markets the desire for improved capability with decreased spending will lead to continuing sensor and electronics upgrades and funding increases, even while platform acquisitions shrink and non-sensor upgrades — such as new engines for manned JSTARS aircraft — are put on hold.
