Indian unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturer Kadet Defence Systems is creating the country's first tactical UAS, which will focus on mining and prospecting uses in addition to military and homeland security applications. Kadet CEO Avdhesh Khaitan says the company is interested in exploring civilian applications with its vehicles, and the development of its new UAS, named Garuda, gave the company the impetus to do so. "India should be in the market soon for a tactical UAV in which case we would be able to offer a mature market ready product," he says. The Garuda will have a more than six-hour endurance with a 200-kilometer (124-mile) range. The company says it will base its smaller UAS, currently in development, on the Garuda.
