IRobot has introduced a newly configured Seaglider unmanned underwater vehicle that can be outfitted with a larger set of fairings, increasing the UUV's volume and doubling its mass payload capabilities. IRobot displayed the new Seaglider at the Oceans 2011 conference from 19-21 Sept. in Kona, Hawaii. The company is also offering new sensor packages for its underwater vehicles, citing customer demand. These include a pumped sensor that measures conductivity, temperature and pressure with an optional pumped dissolved oxygen sensor. IRobot is also integrating a radiation sensor, echosounder and current profiler for Seaglider. The UUV has five sensor payload ports that facilitate a range of capabilities.
