The flight test of Fuji Heavy Industries' secretive new unmanned aircraft proceeded as planned - until it didn't.rnA Mitsubishi F-2 took off without incident and steered to the test range over the Sea of Japan, carrying the "Tacom" UAS under one wing. The 15-foot, two-ton UAS' turbofan engine fired normally. The vehicle cleanly separated from the F-2, but here's where things apparently went wrong. Shortly after launch, the full-scale prototype plunged into the sea and "was not recovered," Flight International reported in May, quoting unnamed sources; Japanese officials would not comment.
