Congress should create an "overarching body" within the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to coordinate the integration of unmanned aerial systems into the National Airspace System (NAS), according to the investigative arm of Congress.rnThe FAA and U.S. Department of Defense are addressing the technical challenges to routine NAS flight-not the least being the need for unmanned vehicles to "sense and avoid" oncoming air traffic-but FAA estimates that completing regulations will take a decade or more. In the meantime, it's facing a workload crunch and it hasn't even analyzed the data it has collected, the Government Accountability Office says in a new report.
