摘要

When a Predator unmanned vehicle fired a Hellfire-C missile and killed enemy combatants in Afghanistan in 2001, it was news around the world-unmanned aircraft were no longer just eyes in the sky, they could do real damage on the ground as well.rnThat feat sounded familiar to former employees of Developmental Sciences Corp., a small California company that built a scrappy little UAV called the SkyEye. The SkyEye fired 2.75-inch rockets and Viper rockets against ground targets in tests back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Other advances have been announced over the years: shipboard recovery of a UAV, autonomous landings, net landings-and all have brought back memories for the Developmental Sciences crew because SkyEye had done them all in its long (but chronically underfunded) life.
