The schools that conduct training for the operations and maintenance of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) over the last two decades have grown as the industry has expanded. One of the largest schools for training personnel for UAV units is the U.S. Army UAV Training Command at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. The school has continued to increase the number of students graduating each year to provide initial manning and replacements for the thirty AAI Shadow Tactical UAV systems and the seven Northrop Grumman Hunter UAV systems in the field. (See Hunter Feature, p.44) Over the last five years, the rate of student throughput has gone up over 300 percent with up to 500 students a year going through the school. This steep increase in graduates began after the Shadow systems successful Initial Operational, Test & Evaluation (IOT&E) in 2001.
