Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have repeatedly demonstrated their value as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) collection platforms in warfare, including Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. As the use of motion imagery and other data collected by manned and unmanned sensor platforms has become increasingly important to the war fighter, the proliferation of sensors and platforms that use the Common Data Link (CDL) has raised the Military Services' interest in assuring interoperability. Traditionally, the focus on interoperability has been between data link terminals on an airborne collection platform and a receiving station (either ground or air). However, the true value of interoperability occurs when the requirement is extended to encompass everything between the sensor on the collection platform and the display on the receiving station. This sensor-to-display (end-to-end) interoperability includes: compatible data links, standardized framing of data for transmission over the link, and other interoperability issues outside of the data link, including common sensor data formats.
