The U.S. Marine Corps views unmanned systems, both ground and air, as force multipliers that can transform how Marine infantrymen wage war in the 21st Century. The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL) was established at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA in 1995 to conduct promising weapons experimentation. Part of the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, the battlelab's mission is to improve current and future naval expeditionary warfare capabilities across the spectrum of conflict for current and future operating forces. Toward that goal, the MCWL is developing the Dragon Runner, a pint-sized, wheeled Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) designed to protect small units while at the same time increasing their situational awareness. The warfighting lab is also working on the Dragon Eye and Dragon Warrior, small Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) offering similar capabilities.
