Last year marked the 25th anniversary of Clarence N. Stone's Regime Politics, one of the most influential books ever written about urban governance. Urban Affairs Review has taken this occasion for a published reaction and reflection on Regime Politics. After a quarter of a century (or so), many questions might be addressed. For instance, what does the book offer that continues to be useful? Its time period covered, 1946 to 1988, was quite momentous. What did the book miss about city politics that was especially important in the period leading up to its publication? In which ways is the present time as fundamentally different from the political time covered by Regime Politics? In this colloquy, Stone and Joel Rast, Katherine B. Hankins, Michael Jones-Correa, and Diane Wong, four scholars who have used regime analysis in a variety of ways, address these questions and more.
