No nation has impacted the globe or other countries and their peoples like Israel has. It is better known than any other nation-state. Its government has a global reach; its peoples are influential; its military is feared widely and respected universally. Israel has many friends and a like number of foes; no one is neutral, for no other state have there ever been so many waving the flags of a 60th anniversary celebration, nor so many out to try to tear down those flags. From the size of its global footprint, one would have to say that Israel is among the world's largest nations. While the existence of its state stretches only 60 years, its nation dates back more than 3,000. Today, its population is just over 7,000,000, while its land is a mere 840 square miles; yet its reach clearly is more global than any other. Israel's modern-day power and the size of its pro-and-con 60th-year celebration have to be explained by the nature of its culture, the accomplishments of its peoples, and the sophistication of its sociopolitical system.
