Since its creation in early 2006, the International Helicopter Safety Team safety initiative has steadily gained credibility and momentum. Initially it was conceived as a North American undertaking led by AHS International, Helicopter Association International, the Federal Aviation Administration, and Transport Canada supplemented by industry members, specialized operator associations, and academia. But today the initiative embraces parallel efforts underway in the European Union (EHEST), Australia, Brazil and India - all focused on achieving the IHST goal of reducing helicopter accidents by 80 percent within 10 years.
