For the US military, Overseas Contingency Operations in response to man-caused disasters still consume helicopter flight hours at furious rates. Despite the drawdown of forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), the 600-plus Army helicopters in Iraq and Afghanistan still fly at three to five times their peacetime utilization rates. Army Col. Jesse Farrington, former commander of the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade in Iraq told an Association of the US Army (AUSA) symposium, "If you want it found, you want it killed, or you want it moved, Army Aviation is who you call."
