Sikorsky announced on April 27 it had signed an agreement to deliver four S-92A+ upgrade kits to VIH Aviation Group, whose Newfoundland-based subsidiary Cougar Helicopters will become the launch customer. The upgrade kits feature a new Phase Ⅳ Main Gear Box-which Sikorsky said meets US Code CFR 29.927(c) regulations regarding lubrication system failure and can provide return to base capability for a range of more than 400 nm (740 km) following a loss of primary lubrication system oil pressure-as well as an increase to 27,700 Ib (12,247 kg) max gross weight with LifePlus improving component retirement times. Cougar uses its fleet of S-92s for offshore transport and search and rescue. (Source: Sikorsky)
