Because most camera vendors currently offer products based on imaging sensors from well-known companies such as Eastman Kodak (Rochester, NY, USA; www. kodak.com), Aptina (San Jose, CA, USA; www.aptina.com), and Sony (Park Ridge, NJ, USA; www.sony.com), it has become increasingly difficult to differentiate between cameras based on sensor technology alone. Recognizing this, camera vendors are now looking to customize their product offerings by forging partnerships with less well known CMOS design houses such as Alexima (Pasadena, CA, USA; www. alexima.com), AnaFocus (Seville, Spain; www. anafocus.com), Awaiba (Madeira, Portugal; www.awaiba.com), and CMOSIS (Antwerp, Belgium; www.cmosis.com). Partnerships like these provide camera vendors with unique products as well as competitive advantages associated with being first to market.
