As we were preparing to go to press with this issue of Warship World news came in that the UK Business Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, has intervened in the takeover bid of UK Defence firm Ultra Electronics. The competition regulator, instructed by Kwarteng, will look at whether the merger with Cobham, owned by a US private equity firm, creates a national security risk.
