摘要

In recent years, policies of governments towards waste management have focused on waste avoidance, reuse and recycling. As a result there has been significant progress in these management areas, particularly for the more developed nations. However, there remains a need to focus policy efforts on landfill post-closure issues. This is because landfill disposal remains the most widely used strategy for waste management in the less developed countries and the lack of post-closure policy and standards will lead to lingering and costly problems for the landfill industry.
