In the course of working on the Gweduck checklist, I came across a NASA study entitled "Human Factors of Flight Deck Checklists" (NASA report 177549). It was written in the context of two-pilot crew operations, but it contains some insights that are relevant to single-pilot seaplanes. The report notes that the checklist is a "task in itself, and not just a memory enhancement tool." As such, the task should "accommodate human nature, its capabilities as well as its limitations." It explores principles that have proven effective in checklist design and also identifies features that cause problems.
