The last two years have been eventful for ICON Aircraft, manufacturer of the two-seat, Rotax-powered A5 composite-construction hull seaplane that has been nearly a decade in design, development, and LSA certification. Last year, after ICON finally earned LSA approval for the A5, the company said it would deliver 175 aircraft. Soon, however, ICON announced that manufacturing and supply-chain issues forced it to virtually halt production and lay off about half its staff. The ambitious 2016 production and delivery forecast was scaled back to just 20 new A5s, all of which would stay with the company to be used at its ICON Flight Centers for training duty.
