Australian pilot and SPA member, Michael Smith, recently completed a once-in-a-lifetime, record-setting flight-a circumnavigation of the globe-in his Searey amphibian, christened Southern Sun. Taking off from Melbourne in April 2015, his plan was to retrace the route of the 1938 Qantas flying boat that flew from Rose Bay, Sydney, to Southampton, England, via Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. He stopped in 38 places over 10 weeks, most of which were part of the original 10-day trip.
