If a growing number of participants, visitors, and media coverage is a measure of success, then the second International Seaplane Splash-In in Pollensa (Mallorca), Spain, is indeed on its way to being a successful event. The Mallorcan Aviation Foundation staged the first Pollensa Splash-In last year and followed up with the successful event this year. The next one is scheduled for 2015, and thereafter in odd-numbered years to avoid competing with other European seaplane events. The Pollensa splash-in not only is an important event for pilots and aviation enthusiasts, but it could be the seed for future European seaplane development. Wilczek Elmar, an engineer formerly with Dormer and now a professor of maritime aviation in Germany, proposed the creation of a center for seaplane research, training, and Search and Rescue activities, with a special emphasis on large seaplanes.
