SPA congratulates Mark Baker, a long-time seaplane pilot, who has been named AOPA President, succeeding Craig Fuller. In an "AOPA Live This Week" interview with AOPA PILOT editor-in-chief Tom Haines, Baker said his favorite airplane is his Piper Super Cub, which he has owned for more than 25 years. He said he puts the airplane on floats in the summer, and hydraulic wheel skis in winter. Baker reportedly has owned and flown several different types of seaplanes over the years. He told Haines that one of his initiatives will be to urge AOPA members to invite the public to general aviation airports - a theme expressed by SPA Executive Director Steve McCaughey in his "Executive Director's Message" in the May/June 2013 issue of Water Flying.
