Sean Van Hatten and Brooke Roman are the latest recipients of SPA's Tyler Orsow/Chuck Kimes Scholardships. They were awarded their scholarships at the SPA Corn Roast at this year's EAA AirVenture. The scholarships, named in honor of two accomplished seaplane pilots and funded by donations, are awarded to deserving young career-oriented pilots. Each scholarship pays for training for a single-engine sea rating. Van Hatten earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics at Oregon State University and an Associates degree in Applied Science in Aviaiton from Central Oregon Community College. He holds a Commercial certificate and instrument rating, and is an Advanced and Instrument Ground Instructor. He currently works in R&D at Plane Driven, which is developing the PD-2, a Glasair Sportsman that is capable of being driven on the road. Van Hatten plans to train this fall with Kenmore Air for his Single-Engine -Sea rating.
