2013 was a landmark year for Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winter Haven, Florida, because it marked a half-century of continuous operation in the same cozy Lake Jessie facility that founder Jack Brown built. Brown's uses 100-hp J3 Cubs on straight Aqua 1500 floats to teach a basic, five-hour single-engine-sea course, and over the years has trained more seaplane pilots than any other school. Jack's son Jon, who has operated the business since 1975, told Water Flying that the school has trained more than 15,000 pilots, and that was nearly six years ago.
