I've followed the progress of Glasair Aviation with great interest since the company was founded in 1980. It is one of the most interesting kitplane companies to come along, and in my opinion they've revolutionized that industry. The company's latest design, the Sportsman 2+2, continues that tradition. Glasair describes the Sportsman as a beefed-up version of its GlaStar, with stronger landing gear, wing, wing struts, safety cage, and fuselage. The result is a 1,000-pound useful load for the wheel version. Glasair describes it as "a true composite" because the wings are constructed using aluminum skins, the fuselage is fiberglass, and the frame is a chromoly welded steel-tube cage structure An optional small rear seat is available (thus the 2+2 designation), and the Sportsman can be configured as a taildragger or trike, fitted with floats, and powered by a variety of certified or experimental engines. The wings fold and the airplane can be trailered.
