ISBN: 978-1-877973-50-5. $35.00 (hardcover).—This work was originally proposed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the American Ornithologists' Union (AOU) in 1983, but did not happen for a variety of reasons outlined in the introduction to the book. The project was revived for the 125th anniversary in 2008, but ran into problems again. In 2014, Erica Dunn approached Ted Davis about finishing the project and he enlisted the assistance of historian Byron K. Butler. One of the original authors, Sterling, also agreed to help; unfortunately the other author, Marianne Ainley, had passed away by then. The author and editors are to be congratulated for finally seeing this project through to print. (Full disclosure: I was one of the outside reviewers of their final manuscript.)
