The introduction of fuzzy logic control into industrial processes is given a wide interest during the last decade. Fuzzy control is not based on exact mathematical models, hence it can be easily applied to cases when the analytical system model is unknown or inexact. The desired response of the controller results from predefined heuristic rules, which are usually obtained through the experience of the system operating performance. The aim of this paper is to present an application of fuzzy logic to the control of wind turbine generators. The fuzzy algorithm is developed step-by-step and it is implemented by means of a computer simulation program. The fuzzy controller performance is studied under various wind scenarios, making use of the operational data of a commercial stall-regulated wind turbine. The simulated results show that the fuzzy logic controller could be a simple, robust and inexpensive answer to wind turbine control problem.
