Many of us want a better work-life balance, but we can have high expectations of what this balance looks like. The balance we are all after seems to include discovering the secret way to do all things easily and with aplomb. In our perfectly imagined, perfectly balanced worlds, we work, parent, and take care of aging parents without a hiccup. Our laundry never sits in piles on the couch, and we never miss a conference, whether it be IEEE or a parent-teacher get together. This is what we want, us overachievers: perfection.
